Wedding Photographers
from a DJ’s point of
view
After years
of doing countless weddings for over 25 years, we (the wedding venders) have
always worked with each other to help make the evening go nice and smooth. It’s
no different than the electrician working alongside the carpenter or the
heating and air guy. With that being said, through the years we always run into
the type of photographer that has an hourly package that they sell to the
bride/groom. Which might be a great sell for the photographer, just not always
a great thing for the wedding dj or the bride/groom later in the evening.
We see way
too often a photographer that may start their day out very early at the bride’s
home as she is getting ready and after a long day, they are tired. Granted,
anyone would be, right? Here is where the problem lies. Your photographer should
be there with you for the entire evening. Not coming up to you, the bride or
groom, and saying “We are nearing the end of our time, is there anything else
we need to get done before we leave?” Wouldn’t you want your photographer to be
there for the entire day? Start to finish? We find that more often than less
the photographer misses out on many specialty dances and/or interactive things
that a DJ and or a band may do throughout the night and he is long gone and the
bride/groom will never get that professional picture and/or the video too.
Wouldn’t you
want to capture everything? If you are on a tight timetable during the night
and “things do tend to not always workout according to plan”, don’t blame the
entertainment when you may miss out on dance floor time. There could be other
factors that may cause the said delays like: Bride/Groom was late and/or your
toasts lasted 30 minutes. Let’s not forget you had 2 hours of dinner time and
still wanted to go greet each of your guests and table hop. All of the above
does take time, and indeed the wedding venders all try to keep you on a schedule.
